PE 2028 - Ski Patrol (Hill)

National Ski Patrol training involving fitness, skiing proficiency, toboggan handling, and lift evacuation. Leads to qualifying membership test into National Ski Patrol.

The Professional Ski Instructors Assoc (PSIA) criteria is used for determining our entry level. Mont Ripley wants skiers/snowboarders/telemark skiers who are at a LEVEL 7. So what is a level 7? PSIA defines a Level 7 skier as "Skis in a comfortable, open-stance parallel(stance about hip-width) on all blue & less challenging, groomed, black terrain. The student also skis in very easy bumps, maintaining rhythm and speed control". To help make this determination, there is a Ski Along at Mont Ripley.

Our afternoon will be spent skiing. You will be evaluated by several of our Ski Patrol instructors. We will have alpine + telemark + snowboard patrollers as demonstrators and evaluators. After skiing together and looking at your individual skill levels, we will tell you, individually, if you will continue with the course in January. Those who are not at the required Level 7 will be asked to change to a different ski / snowboard class.

Requires purchase of a season pass for Mont Ripley.

This class fulfills 1 unit of co-curricular requirement.
